From 2003 to 2005, OVSL champion was determined by a play-off format. The winner of the regular season was also awarded a trophy. Starting 2006 to 2008, the championship was awarded to the team with the most points after the regular season. This ensured that the most consistent team was awarded supremacy. A secondary competition called the League Cup was also introduced, which gave all teams an opportunity to earn additional hardware. In 2009, OVSL introduced a division structure to ensure proper alignment in skill levels among the teams. All teams played one complete round robin and then were divided into two different divisions (A and B) based on their standings. Each division then played one additional round robin within their group. The OVSL champion was the winner of Division A. The winner of Division B was also awarded a trophy. The two different division League Cups was contested by the top four teams of each division after the two rounds.
